The Friday night baseball game between Southern and LSU-Eunice at Lee-Hines Field has been canceled, and Saturday’s doubleheader is in jeopardy of also being washed out, Southern coach Roger Cador said.

“There’s a lot of rain out there on that field right now,” Cador said. “And we’re expecting a lot of rain. It doesn’t look good.

The teams were to play at 6 p.m. Friday. The doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday is still scheduled, but Cador is concerned more rain Friday and again Saturday will doom those seven-inning games.

“Tomorrow is wait and see. Tonight is gone,” Cador said.

The three exhibition games between Southern (20-21), an NCAA Division I member, and LSU-Eunice (45-8), the top-ranked NJCAA Division II team and the reigning national champion, were scheduled to help each team prepare for its postseason.

Southern will begin play in the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, next week. And LSU-E will play in its regional tournament Thursday.
