Will it be one game or two?
Central Private School’s quest for the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools’ Class 2A Overall baseball title continues at Marshall Academy located in Holly Springs, Miss.
CPS (28-4) leads the best-of-three series 1-0 going into a 5 p.m. Friday game at Marshall (21-12). Another win would give the Rebels their first overall MAIS title since 2008. A Marshall win would force a decisive third game also Friday night.
“We feel like we’re in a good position,” Central Private coach Jason Kinchen said. “Obviously, we can’t take anything for granted. We need to continue pitching, hitting, playing defense and doing all the things we’ve done to get us to this point.”
Central Private took a 6-1 victory over Marshall Academy in the first game played Tuesday night at CPS.
Brennan Fucich tossed a three-hitter and Blake Chelette, a Bishop State signee, had two hits and four RBIs for the Rebels, who won the MAIS South State 2A title last week.
University of New Orleans signee Chase Martin (7-0) is scheduled to get the start for CPS. LSU-Alexandria signee Brad Miller leads the Rebels in hitting with a .444 average and 32 RBIs. Blake Benoit (.372) and Martin (.351) are other top hitters for Kinchen’s team.
Kinchen is not sure who Marshall Academy will pitch. Marshall’s ace, Aaron McAlexander (10-2) took the loss Tuesday and was lifted with one out in the second inning.
