The visual and performing arts talent of Lafayette Parish School System students will be showcased in downtown Lafayette on Saturday during the 2013 Student Arts Expo.

The annual free expo, planned from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., features about 100 performances and visual arts exhibits from students in preschool through 12th grade. Every school in the district will be represented at the expo, which was created to raise public awareness and appreciation of the arts, organizers said.

Exhibits and performances are staged at 20 locations throughout downtown featuring student artwork and photography and performances of poetry, theatre and music.

The event is presented by the Lafayette Parish school system and Acadiana Center for the Arts, with support from Downtown Lafayette and Lafayette Consolidated Government.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 2 p.m. at the Acadiana Center for the Arts with a performance by the Broussard Middle School band and chorus. A map of exhibit and performance spaces is available at http://www.acadianacenterforthearts.org.
