Garden club officers, contest winners named

The Gonzales Garden Club recently announced its officers for the 2013-2015 term.

Pricillia Monson will serve as president for the two-year term. Rita Bourque was named vice president. Others officers include Ellen Richmond, historian; Barbara Guillot, parliamentarian; Cynthia Cagnolatti, treasurer; Loretta Speligene, corresponding secretary; and Jamie Trisler, recording secretary.

The winners of the club’s annual flower show were announced at the group’s May meeting. Marilyn Rice’s “Water Falls” display won first place. Ellen Richmond’s “Roses” was named second-place winner.

Club Yearbook Chairman Conchita Richey won first place in the Louisiana Garden Clubs yearbook contest. The entry will now compete in the Deep South Region and at the national level.

The May Yard of the Month award went to Frank and Janice Thomas on East Lynn Street in Gonzales for their neatly landscaped yard of annuals, azalea, fern, arrowhead plants and spiraea.

The Commercial Yard of the Month honor went to Dow Federal Credit Union.
