The Gonzales Garden Club has rescheduled its Friday plant and bake sale due to the threat of inclement weather.
The plant and bake sale will be held May 17 on the lawn next to Gonzales City Hall, 120 S. Irma Blvd. The event raises funds for several of the club’s activities.
River Parishes Community College is accepting applications for a free, two-day science, technology, engineering and math workshop in June for area high school teachers, a school spokesman said.
Teachers will learn about science, technology, engineering and math, education research, network with STEM professionals and learn about STEM through special activities, Nicholas Ory said in a news release.
The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on June 7 and June 8 at the main RPCC campus in Sorrento.

Sunday is National Prevention and Cessation of Tobacco Use Day in Ascension Parish, and Parish President Tommy Martinez is encouraging residents to take part in stop-smoking programs.
Martinez proclaimed the day earlier this month.
The national day is celebrated in every state and is promoted by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Martinez said.
He said residents can go to http://www.Smokefree.gov for tips on quitting smoking or attend a workshop offered by the Ascension Counseling Center. Ascension Counseling Center offers free eight-week stop-smoking group programs, he said.
The group is open to all Ascension Parish residents.

Registration is underway for the Jambalaya Festival’s mini-pot cooking contest, contest chairwoman Cindy Savoy said.
The contest, a fundraiser for the Dream Day Foundation which benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, is May 25 at the Jambalaya Festival in Gonzales.
Savoy is also collecting items given to each cook taking part in the competition.
