Six Baton Rouge area teams and one New Orleans team advanced to Louisiana High School Athletic Association state baseball tournaments by claiming playoff victories Monday.
New Orleans-based Brother Martin (30-5) and three BR teams, Catholic High (23-13) St. Amant (26-9) and Zachary (25-11), posted regional wins to advance to the LHSAA’s Class 5A tourney that begins Friday at Tulane with quarterfinal games.
Lutcher (27-4) in 4A and two 3A teams, Brusly (26-7) and Parkview Baptist (18-17), won quarterfinal games to advance to LHSAA tournaments in Sulphur, also set to start Friday with semifinal games.
Catholic, a No. 21 seed, meets No. 13 Sulphur in one 5A quarterfinal, while third-seeded Brother Martin will square off against No. 6 Sam Houston. St. Amant, the 18th-seed, and No. 10 Zachary meet in an All-BR quarterfinal.
Second-seeded Lutcher will make its first 4A tourney appearance and faces No. 6 Tioga in the semifinals. In Class 3A, No. 11 Brusly takes on District 7-3A rival E.D. White Catholic, the No. 2 seed. Fifth-seeded Parkview meets No. 1 North DeSoto in its 3A semifinal.
Four other Baton Rouge teams advanced to LHSAA tourneys previously. Class 2A University High and 1A St. John-Plaquemine are bound for the LHSAA’s 2A-1A tourney that starts Friday in Monroe.
Fourth-seeded UHS (28-6) takes on top-seeded Calvary Baptist in 2A, while sixth-seeded St. John (28-6) plays No. 2 Mangham in 1A.
Two District 6-C rivals, defending state champion Family Christian (24-4) and Maurepas (16-11), also are bound for Sulphur and will play each other Friday in the semifinals.
Family Christian is seeded No. 1; Maurepas is seeded fourth.
