Denham Springs man gets 20 years in child molestation case

A Denham Springs man was sentenced to 20 years in the Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to one count each of molestation of a juvenile, cruelty to juveniles and attempted aggravated rape.

The St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Marshall C. Sinclair, 49, 11235 Blue Jay Lane, following phone calls from two mothers whose 4- and 6-year-old children reported they had been sexually molested during a July 2, 2010, barbecue at one of the victims’ homes, District Attorney Scott Perrilloux said in a news release Monday.

Sinclair was originally charged with two counts of molestation of a juvenile and one count of cruelty to juveniles, but months later, the 6-year-old victim disclosed additional details that prompted the upgraded charges, Perrilloux said.

Sinclair pleaded guilty Friday, and Judge Doug Hughes sentenced him to serve three concurrent 20-year sentences.

Sinclair also faces an aggravated rape charge in Tangipahoa Parish stemming from a separate incident, Perrilloux said.
