ConnecTeensto hold registration
Teens interested in a summer volunteering opportunity can sign up May 21 at the Ascension Parish Library in Donaldsonville for Volunteer Ascension’s ConnecTeens program.
Registration is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The program introduces youths 12 to 17 to volunteerism, while guaranteeing they meet new people, learn new things and gain a better understanding of the important role of volunteerism in the community, the agency’s website says.
In 2012, ConnecTeens 11th year, 41 teens volunteered more than 879 hours of service through 107 agency programs.

Memorial Day ceremony set
The Ascension Memorial Day ceremony will be at 11 a.m. May 27 at Ascension Veterans Park, 612 S. Irma Blvd.
Keynote speaker will be Capt. Dennis Beaver, a retired member of the U.S. Navy and senior naval instructor at St. Amant High School.
The ceremony will honor and commemorate members of the U.S. military who died while serving our country.
Ceremonial events will include music from the Combined High School Choir, a rifle salute, casket ceremony and military honors from the various Ascension Veterans organizations and the St. Amant High Naval Junior ROTC.
The program is hosted by the Ascension Veterans Park Committee.
RPCC to hold teacher workshop
River Parishes Community College is accepting applications for a free, two-day science, technology, engineering and math workshop in June for area high school teachers, a school spokesman said.
Teachers will learn about science, technology, engineering and math, education research, network with STEM professionals and learn about STEM through special activities, Nicholas Ory said in a news release.
The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on June 7 and June 8 at the main RPCC campus in Sorrento.

Tennis lessons offered for children
Hope Youth Development Inc. is hosting summer tennis lessons for children 6 to 12.
Lessons will be provided during a four-week camp held on from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays starting May 29.
Registration fee is $40.

Library hosts game night for adults
Adults can play Trivial Pursuit, Cranium and Quelf during a May 23 program at the Ascension Parish Library in Dutchtown.
Board Game Night, set for 6 p.m., will feature a variety of board games for residents 18 and older.
