Sakura is the Japanese word for cherry blossom, and a photo of the flowering tree aptly graces the front of Sakura’s menu. Turning the page, diners find an extensive list of appetizers, sushi and dinner choices, along with lunch specials. The wait staff quickly took our drink orders but gave us ample time to peruse the menu.

We chose one of our favorites, fried cheese wontons ($4.95) for an appetizer. The five crunchy shells were amply filled with cream cheese, and the dish was accompanied by two dipping sauces, one with a sweet-hot combination, and the other a creamy sauce also with a spicy kick. Both were pleasing.
A guest enjoyed her entree of yakisoba noodles with vegetables ($9.95). The generous amount of wheat flour noodles, in a slightly sweet, thin brown sauce, were tossed with broccoli flowerets, and thin strips of zucchini, onions and carrots.
To our surprise, the sweetheart sushi roll ($12.95) arrived in heart-shaped sections. Inside were spicy crawfish, snow crab and cucumber. A second surprise was the roll’s topping, a section of fried banana, which gave the roll an added sweetness.
I found the chicken teriyaki ($12.95) quite delicious, with very tender strips of chicken covered in a sweet, thick teriyaki sauce accented with slivers of white onion, carrot and green onion, and garnished with broccoli flowerets. A dish of white rice was served on the side, and miso soup and the house salad preceded the entree. Both the miso soup and the house salad were average.
Another guest selected the hibachi dinner combo ($21.95), which included clear soup that reminded us of the broth in wonton soup, and the house salad. Diners can choose from any two items for this one, and he chose the steak and shrimp. The six plump shrimp were enjoyable, as was the fried rice, but the steak, pre-cut in small pieces for grilling, was a bit chewy.
With no room for dessert at the restaurant, we took home mochi ice cream ($4), a fried banana ($3.95) and tempura cheesecake ($4.95). Mochi ice cream is small balls of ice cream, in this case, green tea, covered in pounded sticky rice cake. The texture takes some getting used to, but it got a thumbs-up from one of our teens. We recommend eating the fried banana and the cheesecake in the restaurant, because the fried batter does not hold up for later eating.
We found the wait staff very pleasant, helpful and efficient.
