Charity Ball Association to honor 16 debutantes

The Charity Ball Association of Baton Rouge will present 16 young women at its annual Le Bal de Noel on Dec. 28. The 2013 debutantes will be honored Tuesday at a French picnic at the home of Cheryl and Robert Kirchoff Sr.

Debutantes are Katherine Scarlett Bowler, daughter of Samuel James and Angela Herpin and the late Dr. James Raymond Bowler III; Machaela Mabry Brabham, daughter of Jack and Adair Brabham; Virginia Grace Butler, daughter of Dr. Daniel “Danny” and Leigh Ann Butler; Helene Engel Chastain, daughter of Joan and James “Sonny” Chastain Jr.; Caroline Catherine Couvillion, daughter of Marc and Jean Couvillion; Sydney Henson Field, daughter of David and Stephanie Field; Caroline Elise Grand, daughter of Trenton and Stephanie Grand; Katherine Leigh Heroman, daughter of Mark and Denise Heroman; Maria Moonlee Karam, daughter of Dr. Thomas and Jamie Karam; Jennifer Louise Landry, daughter of Dan and Cissy Malone and Greg and Ray Landry; Elizabeth “Betsy” Kernan Patrick, daughter of Nell and Kirk Patrick III; Mary Jeannette Rolfsen, daughter of Dr. Michael and Jeannette Rolfsen; Mathilde Louise Silverberg, daughter of Dr. Joel and Marla Silverberg; Madison Alexa Smith, daughter of David and Renee Smith; Caroline Kate Valluzzo, daughter of Timothy and Mary Kate Valluzzo, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; and Mary Emily Walke, daughter of Martin and Mary Leah Walke.

Katherine Scarlett Bowler, a graduate of Episcopal High School, attends Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., where she is a member of Kappa Delta sorority, the French Club and the Catholic Organization of Millsaps. She is the granddaughter of the late Paul and Lou Ellen Trahan, the late Venita and James Bowler Jr. and John Elwood Herpin and the late Marguerite Herpin.

Machaela Mabry Brabham, a graduate of University High School, attends LSU, where she is a member of the LSU Tiger Girls. She also volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and the kidney walk for the National Kidney Foundation. She is the granddaughter of Virginia Dixon Mabry, of Liberty, Miss., and the late William Harrison Mabry Sr. and the late Theo Mack and Evelyn Day Brabham.

Virginia Grace Butler, a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, attends LSU, where she is a member of Chi Omega sorority, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Phi Eta Sigma honor society and Sole Sisters. She is the granddaughter of Patricia Hurley Brooksher and the late Robert Riley Brooksher Jr. and Midgie and Daniel Louie Butler Jr., of Shreveport.

Helene Engel Chastain, a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, attends LSU, where she is a member of Chi Omega sorority. She is the granddaughter of Jody Waggenspack, of Houma, and the late Dr. Guy Waggenspack and Joan and J. Rodney Chastain Sr.

Caroline Catherine Couvillion, a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, attends LSU, where she is a member and officer of Delta Delta Delta sorority, and a member of Sole Sisters. She volunteers with the Bishop Ott Shelter for Women. She is the granddaughter of Gerry and Sidney Joseph Chaisson Jr. and Dr. William and Clare Couvillion and the late Catherine “Katie” Couvillion.

Sydney Henson Field, a graduate of University High School, attends Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, where she is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and is program sales chairwoman for the 2013-04 school year. She is the granddaugher of Jack W. and Carol LaBorde, of Shreveport, and Jack H. and Sharon Field and Estina Brown Duckworth, of Kingwood, Texas.

Caroline Elise Grand, a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, attends LSU, where she is a member of Kappa Delta sorority, Gamma Beta Phi, National Society for Collegiate Scholars and the Pre Dental Society and is a counselor for Louisiana Youth Seminar. She is the granddaughter of David and Anne Roberts Calhoun, of Lafayette, the late Vincent Farley Sonnier and John Douglas Grand and Anne Rollow Karp, of Sautee, Ga.

Katherine Leigh Heroman, a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, attends the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she is a member of Kappa Delta sorority, Mise-en-Scene Society and Catholic Student Ministry. She is the granddaughter of the late Dr. Claude J. “Pat” and Elizabeth Bergh Patin and the late William Middleton “Mid” and Jewell Menville Heroman.

Maria Moonlee Karam, a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, attends LSU, where she is a member of Phi Mu sorority and Volunteer LSU, and is an LSU baseball batgirl. She is the granddaughter of Mary Muscarello Landry, of Harvey, Byron and Mary Landry, of Gretna, and Moonlee Karam, of Oakdale, and the late George Karam.

Jennifer Louise Landry, a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, attends LSU, where she is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and Junior Panhellenic. She is the granddaughter of the late David and Louise Garrett and Robert and Jennifer Netterville. Her mother, Elizabeth Garrett Malone, was also presented by CBA.

Elizabeth “Betsy” Kernan Patrick, a graduate of University High School, attends LSU, where she is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She is the granddaughter of Carey and Elizabeth Guglielmo and Drs. Judith and Kirk Patrick Jr.

Mary Jeannette Rolfsen, a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, attends the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., where she is a member of Chi Omega sorority, Math Counts and UGA Miracle. She participates in Relay for Life. She is the granddaughter of Moonlee Karam, of Oakdale, and the late George Karam and Robert and Rose Rolfsen.

Mathilde Louise Silverberg, a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, attends the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., where she is a member of Chi Omega sorority, the Student Government Association and Math Counts. She is also a freshman Greek leader. She is the granddaughter of Peter and Walterine Cannatella, of Melville, and the late Joseph and Mary Silverberg.

Madison Alexa Smith, a graduate of The Dunham School, attends the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss., where she is a member of Delta Gamma sorority. She is the granddaughter of Dr. Clyde and Jannis Smith, of Lakeland, Fla., and Dr. James and June Smith, of Middletown, N.J.

Caroline Kate Valluzzo, a graduate of Bishop England High School in Charleston, S.C., attends the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss., where she is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She is the granddaughter of Sheffield Clarke Spring and the late Mary Kate Spring and Charles and Ann Valluzzo. Her mother, Mary Kate Spring Valluzzo, was also presented by CBA.

Mary Emily Walke, a graduate of University High School, attends LSU, where she is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, Empower, Refuge, and Sigma Alpha Pi and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies, and is a student worker at the Louisiana Business and Technology Center. She is the granddaughter of Robert and Molly Stewart, of Shreveport, and David and Virginia Ann Walke, of Shreveport.

The Charity Ball Association was formed in 1959 by a group of civic-minded people who wanted to support the community by contributing to local charities. This year’s recipient will be the David Paul Learning and Community Enrichment Center.

Association officers are Jennifer Strasner, president; Andrea McKey, vice president; Margaret Boudreaux, secretary; Ellen Womack, treasurer; Connie Miller and Andrea VanBurkleo, ball chairwomen; and Susan Donohue, debutante liaison.
