If you lived near the cozy cottage at 732 Nelson Drive last year, you may have noticed a lot of construction activity. That’s because the home was completely renovated and doubled in size. Now, everything’s shiny and new in this 2,933-square-foot University Acres residence.
University Acres is just off Highland Road south of LSU and Lee Drive, a great location convenient to everything in south Baton Rouge.
Floored in oak and filled with big windows, the home is a traditional style with a twist of contemporary. Entry to the painted brick and Hardiplank home is up five brick steps and across an elevated porch through double doors. Bricks form a wall below the porch, and an iron medallion is a nice touch.
Inside, the formal dining room is immediately to the left, and a sun room is directly ahead. Part of the foyer hallway to the sun room – it could also be used as a study – is walled in painted white brick.
The sun room has a pair of decorative French doors that view a side yard, and an operating French door at the end that provides access to the back yard and a patio of concrete squares.
Cased entries separate the sun room from the living room, which is really a sun room itself thanks to a wall of four 12-light windows. Since the living room is open to the kitchen, these windows allow lots of natural light into the whole room.
The kitchen is bright and white with painted cabinetry and a massive 3 cm Carrera marble island. The neat thing about this island – besides the fact that it contains a wine refrigerator and a stainless sink with an upgraded faucet – is that it is actually two stacked 3cm slabs with beveled edges. Matching single 3cm slabs are on the counter tops.
Meanwhile, the appliance package is stainless, and it’s all brand new, including a six-burner cook top with an oven, as well as a Bosch dishwasher. Backsplashes are in an interesting basket weave design, and it’s all illuminated by a pair of six-light iron fixtures above the island. The laundry room is nearby, and it too has the 3 cm Carrera marble slabs on counter tops.
The master suite is opposite the living room in this split floor plan. The carpeted master bedroom is large with a pair of 12-light windows and a ceiling fan. The marble master bath has a big walk-in shower with two water sources, a scalloped 6-foot whirlpool tub with a waterfall faucet, and a big closet at one end that has lots of hanging space, cubbies and shoe shelving. Another big window with a seat separates the two master vanities, one for him and a longer one with a makeup desk for her. Another window is at the other end of the bath, and even the closet has its own tall window.
On the other side of this interesting floor plan is a hallway with three bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms share a full bath, while the third has its own bath with a shower.
“Everything in this home is brand spanking new,” said Diana Sutherland, the Pro Sold Realty broker marketing the property. Also, part of the home’s renovation – completed late last year – involved raising interior ceilings and installing 8-foot interior doors, she said.
Don’t miss your chance to see this beautiful offering in University Acres. It will be kept open today from 2-5 p.m.
