New Orleans scored four runs in the first two innings, then held off Omaha on Monday night at Zephyr Field, ending a three-game losing streak.
Ed Lucas hit a one-out solo homer to touch off a three-run first. Bryan Petersen followed with a double, then Ben Lasater homered to left.
The Zephyrs scored in the second when Wilson Valdez came in from third as a throw by Omaha catcher Brett Hayes, who was trying to get out Gorkys Hernandez stealing second, went into center field.
Left-hander Duane Below, in his Zephyrs debut, gave up two runs on seven hits in five innings.
Former Jesuit and UNO standout Johnny Giavotella drove in all three Chasers runs with a double in the third, a sacrifice fly in the fifth and a single in the ninth.

When the Zephyrs’ Lucas hit a solo home run in the first inning, it was his second consecutive game with a bases-empty homer but his first homer in a home game. Heading into Monday’s game, Lucas was hitting .329 (25-of-76), second on the Zephyrs to Matt Diaz (.346), and had hit safely in 15 of the 19 games in which he has played. More impressive, Lucas got a hit in 11 of 12 road games and has batted .383 (18-of-47) in away games.
Former LSU pitchers Louis Coleman (0-1, 2.08) and Ryan Verdugo (1-2, 4.94) pitch for Omaha. Verdugo, a starter, was not yet slated to pitch in this series. Former Zephyrs catcher Brett Hayes (.324, 11 games) and pitcher Brian Sanches (2-1, 5.03) also play for the Storm Chasers. Hayes spent three seasons with the Zephyrs, and Monday’s game marked his first appearance against them. … In seven previous games against the Zephyrs, former Jesuit High and UNO second baseman Giavotella had batted .370 against the Zephyrs, with eight RBIs. He went 8-for-14 in his only series appearance last year at Zephyr Field.
Wednesday: Zephyrs right-handed pitcher Doug Mathis (1-2, 1.66) against Storm Chasers left-handed pitcher Chris Dwyer (3-1, 2.56).
