NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans police are investigating a fatal shooting Sunday on North Broad Street, a police spokesman said.
Two New Orleans Police Department bicycle officers were unloading their bikes on LaHarpe Street around 2:15 p.m. when someone told them a man was “bloody and acting irate in the street,” Officer Garry Flot said in a news release.
Officers found the man on LaHarpe and tried to question him, but he pushed one of the officers and began running on North Broad Street, Flot said.
The officers lost sight of the man, but they heard a gunshot when they reached a home in the 1500 block of North Broad, Flot said.
A person inside the house ran out and told the officers an unknown man entered the house and began fighting with the people inside, Flot said.
A person inside the house, fearing for his and other’s lives, shot the man, Flot said.
The shooting victim, whose identity was unknown as of press time Sunday, was taken to a hospital, where he died, Flot said.
No charges have been filed pending consultation with the District Attorney’s Office, Flot said.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (504) 822-1111.
