As the new downtown library moves forward, there is a danger that the same shortage of nearby parking that many think killed the current River Center Branch will also kill the new branch, regardless of how well it is conceived and designed.
Plenty of parking is available next to the library on the ramp down to the parking garage under City Hall that can be dedicated to library patron use. It is currently allocated for use by city employees and has been since soon after the River Center branch opened decades ago. If this parking is not rededicated for library use the new library will be dead on arrival.
