The Advocate’s editorial of April 17 proposing the names of persons applying for a concealed carry permit be made public in the name of transparency is unwarranted, dangerous and infringes on the public’s expected privacy.
You make a weak case for transparency to keep the law enforcement agencies diligence at the expected privacy detriment of the average citizen. Do your job and suggest other means to keep the law enforcement agencies diligent. You present no other reasons for making these names public. You make no case for why these names should be made public to the media or anyone.
Making public the list of persons applying for concealed carry permits is just the first step toward gun registration, and then gun confiscation. If persons carrying concealed weapons wanted that fact known, they would strap them on their hips.
