ZACHARY —Police temporarily evacuated seven houses Thursday afternoon after finding two working methamphetamine labs in a residence at July and Church streets, Police Chief David McDavid said.
When Zachary police and deputy U.S. marshals went to 2651 Church St. to arrest a man wanted on a burglary count, they found the labs, McDavid said.
The fugitive apparently was visiting the residence, the police chief said.
Zachary police are continuing an investigation to draw up arrest warrants in connection with the meth labs, he said.
Officers evacuated the homes until the Baton Rouge Fire Department’s HazMat Unit determined that the materials in the residence no longer posed any risk of explosion.
A company specializing in cleaning up meth labs also was called to remove the materials, McDavid said.
