SLIDELL — St. Tammany Parish sheriff’s deputies Monday night recovered the body of a Slidell man missing after a fishing trip.
Family members of Ricky Nguyen, 20, called the Sheriff’s Office about 9 p.m. after he failed to return home following the outing that began about noon, said Sgt. Sean Beavers, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
Beavers said Nguyen went fishing in an unknown area. Family members’ calls to his cellphone went straight to voicemail, Beavers said.
The Sheriff’s Office’s Marine Division began a search for Nguyen and found his boat run aground near the end of Sunset Boulevard in Lakeshore Estates, Beavers said.
Deputies found Nguyen’s body nearby in the water about midnight.
The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s office and state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries were notified and are investigating the incident, which is an apparent boating accident, Beavers said.
A cause of death is pending an autopsy.
