Former LSU All-American John Peterson and PGA Tour veteran Chris DiMarco will be among the professionals participating Wednesday in the L’Auberge of Baton Rouge Pro-Am at University Club.
Fifteen teams will compete in a scramble format starting at 8 a.m. in one of two pro-am events happening in conjunction with the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a PGA Tour event starting Thursday at TPC Louisiana in Avondale.
This marks the fifth consecutive year Baton Rouge has hosted a pro-am with touring pros playing a relaxing round with local amateurs before the $6.6 million tournament begins at 7 a.m. Thursday.
The L’Auberge of Baton Rouge Pro-Am will benefit local children’s charities as part of the Fore!Kids Foundation’s annual donation of about $1 million, which is distributed throughout southeast Louisiana. There is no admission charge to watch the tournament.
Other team captains are D.J. Trahan, Darron Stiles, Glen Day, Jeff Gove, Mathias Gronberg, Matt Bettencourt, Robert Gamez, Rod Pampling, Steven Bowditch, Vaughn Taylor, Zach Fischer, John Curran and Joey Snyder III.
Former LSU quarterbacks Tommy Hodson and Jarrett Lee were the big winners in the first Capital One Bank $30,000 Celebrity Shootout played over four holes Tuesday at TPC Louisiana.
Hodson and Lee teamed up to earn two skins to win $6,000 each for his respective charity.
Other celebrity teams featured New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees, New Orleans Pelicans coach Monty Williams and former LSU football standout Kyle Williams, and former PGA Tour player Charlie Rymer and Pelicans point guard Greivis Vasquez.
Each of those celebrities earned $3,000 for his respective charity.
None of the celebrities or amateur Chris Lala of Slidell were able to claim the $1 million prize for scoring a hole-in-one on the par-3 ninth hole.
Bubba Watson, who won the Zurich Classic title in 2011, will team with three members of the popular reality TV series “Duck Dynasty” in Wednesday’s Classic Pro-Am at TPC Louisiana.
Willie and Jase Robertson, owners of the Duck Commander empire, will be joined by associate Justin Martin to team with Watson, one of the show’s biggest fans.
The group will go off the first tee at 7 a.m.
The PGA Tour on Tuesday released the pairings and tee times for the first two rounds of the tournament set for Thursday and Friday.
The top group includes three former New Orleans champions in Watson (2011) and defending champion Jason Dufner. They’ll join Nick Watney, who won in 2007, and start from the 10th tee at 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
Former LSU All-American David Toms and K.J. Choi, who won in New Orleans in 2001 and ’02, respectively, will be in the group right behind them at 7:40 a.m.
World Golf Hall of Famer Ernie Els, who lost a two-hole playoff with Dufner last April, will play with Rickie Fowler and former Tulane standout Michael Thompson from the No. 1 tee at 12:30 p.m. and will be followed by Keegan Bradley and Justin Rose, the world’s No. 3 player, at 12:40 p.m.
