What we learned
Not a whole lot, overall, other than LSU still has a lot of very talented players on its roster despite losing 11 early to the NFL draft. Six projected starters like Jermauria Rasco and Elliott Porter didn’t see action Saturday. Same for a number of other key players, like running back Alfred Blue and place-kicker James Hairston. The offense and defense were total vanilla extract, too, each operating out of a couple of basic formations.e_SClBTrending now
Les Miles didn’t want to name names, but freshman quarterback Anthony Jennings appeared to position himself to grab the No. 2 quarterback spot. He was a modest 8 of 21 passing but showed the mobility Miles craves and that LSU can feature each game with an option package. Think Ryan Perrilloux in 2007 without the off field baggage.e_SClBFinal thoughts
The Spring Game is viewed as a defining moment, but for this LSU football team it is merely a break in the action. Like halftime, if that. Injured players need to heal, freshmen need to be added to the mix and several key position battles have to be ironed out before a definite picture of the 2013 Tigers comes into focus. If you’re looking for a Spring Game grade call it a B, but really LSU’s course work is incomplete.
