Mount Carmel students try engineering

Advocate staff report

Several Mount Carmel Academy eighth-graders participated in “A Day in the Life of an Engineer,” hosted by the Society of Women Engineers at the University of New Orleans.

The girls were split into teams, each led by a different engineering group. They were given a structure to build at the zoo, for example, a bridge for the elephants to cross.

They had to work as team to decide what materials to use and the cost of the materials, taking into consideration such factors as distance and the mass and height of the elephants.

Science Technology Engineering and Math career awards were given out during the event.

As part of larger teams, winning Mount Carmel students were: Allee Lamy, first place; Ashley Code, second; Baylee Robertson, third; and Kellie Kampen, fourth.
