Louisiana’s major health problem with diabetes will be the subject of a day-long summit at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center on Wednesday.
There is very little on the health front more timely than the issues before the conferees organized by the Environment and Health Council of Louisiana.
Citing 2010 statistics from the state Department of Health and Hospitals, organizers said as many as 10 percent of the people in Louisiana have been diagnosed with diabetes, and many more are undiagnosed. The costs of treatment run into the billions in Louisiana.
Pennington experts, health care providers and legislators are among the speakers scheduled. This is a vital topic, and we hope that the conferees can provide recommendations on ways to meet this challenge in public health in Louisiana.
