Ascension Parish 4-Hers were top winners in the 2013 4-H Commodity Ambassador contests held April 16 at LSU.

Competing at the state level with their illustrated talks were Shawn Fox, Hannah Fowler, Makenzie Fowler, Matthew Landry, Viki-Dawn Landry, Jamie Laverne, Jessica Stewart and Gabrial Trippi, a new release from parish 4-H representatives says.

The 4-H Commodity Ambassador Program is designed for education and enhancement while emphasizing specific Louisiana agricultural commodities, egg, chicken, turkey and seafood, the release says.

4-Hers were scored on appearance, visuals of their poster or PowerPoint presentation, accurate content on the agricultural commodity, poise and effective presentation, correct length of presentation and response to judge’s questions.

In the fourth- through sixth-grade division, Makenzie won first place with her “Alligator Hunt” presentation and Jamie finished in third place. Hannah captured a blue ribbon for her “Egg Cents” talk. The 4-Hers prepared a poster and presented a 2-3 minute talk. Makenzie was presented with the gold medal and $50.

Matthew won first place in the seventh- through ninth-grade division for his presentation on catfish and third place for this “Efficiency Egg-pert” talk.

A blue ribbon went to Jessica for her “Sugar, A Sweet Success” presentation, and a Red ribbon was won by Gabrial for her egg presentation.

Ascension Parish 4-H also had first place winners in the senior division.

Shawn won a gold medal and a trip for his “A Sugar Spectacular” presentation.

Viki-Dawn’s PowerPoint “The A, B, C’s of Eggs” and a coconut custard pie was rewarded with a gold medal and a trip to Louisville to represent Louisiana in the national competition in November.
