Two Pointe Coupee Parish residents were killed Monday night in West Baton Rouge Parish when their vehicle ran off La. 413 north of U.S. 190 and hit a tree, Louisiana State Police said.
The victims were Nikki A. Nolen, 18, of Erwinville, and Abby M. Thompson, 18, of New Roads, according to a State Police news release.
The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. as Nolen was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer southbound on La. 413. For unknown reasons, Nolen’s Trailblazer ran off the road to the right and struck a tree on the driver’s side.
Nolen and front seat passenger Thompson were not wearing seatbelts, according to the release.
Driver impairment is unknown at this time; however, troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from Nolen to the State Police Crime Lab in Baton Rouge for analysis, the news release says.
