EBR deputies arrest boy with loaded gun at school

Authorities arrested a 15-year-old Glen Oaks High School student on campus Monday after finding a loaded gun in his sock.

The eighth-grade student was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Detention Center on one count of illegal carrying of a weapon on school property, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said in a news release.

A teacher saw the student put something in his sock and then contacted a school resource officer, Hicks said. The school resource officer then contacted the parish’s School Drug Task Force, Hicks said.

The school resource officer found a loaded .22-caliber revolver in the student’s sock, Hicks said.

The student gave no reason for having the weapon, Hicks said.

No threats were made, Hicks said.

The School Drug Task Force is a multi-agency unit made up of sheriff’s deputies and Baton Rouge police.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to notify school administrators or contact the Sheriff’s Office at (225) 389-5000 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (225) 344-7867.
