New Orleans — After a weekend that saw seven people shot throughout the city, the violence continued Monday in New Orleans with four more shootings reported.
Police began the day investigating a shooting in the 1800 block of Elysian Fields Avenue where a 20-year-old man was shot in a drive-by shooting about 9:15 a.m. The victim was wounded in the buttocks and is listed in stable condition.
That evening, Fifth District officers were called to the 1900 block of Painters Street about 7 p.m. They found an 18-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the leg who reported that he’d also been shot in a drive-by shooting.
About three hours later, police said that two men were wounded in separate shootings in eastern New Orleans and Algiers. In the first incident, a 34-year-old man was shot in the leg by an unknown assailant who walked up to him and opened fire near Bullard Avenue and Lakelawn Street. In Algiers, a 29-year-old victim reported that a vehicle drove up to him in the 3300 block of De Armas Street and a man inside opened fire. The victim was struck in the shoulder and buttocks.
New Orleans — Federal investigators arrested a teacher at St. Mary’s Academy on Tuesday after authorities said he persuaded a 15-year-old boy to make a pornographic movie.
Keith Joseph McGee, 29, was booked enticing a minor to produce child pornography, according to the FBI. Authorities found evidence related to the video on McGee’s computer, according to a bews release.
New Orleans — Two eastern New Orleans teens were robbed and pistol-whipped while walking down the street Monday night.
Police said the incident was reported shortly before 8 p.m. in the 14000 block of Intrepid Street. The 18-year-old victim and 15-year-old victim said that three men approached them from behind and forced them to the ground. Police said the robbers took a backpack, shoes, wallets and a cellphone before one of the robbers hit the teens on the head with a gun and fled. A silver Mazda SUV was seen fleeing the scene.
New Orleans — A 19-year-old man reported that five men ransacked his apartment and stole his jewelry early Tuesday morning.
Police said the incident was reported at an apartment complex in the 7800 block of Symmes Avenue in eastern New Orleans. The victim told officers that when he opened his door, the five men barged inside, and he was hit on the head with a gun. After searching the apartment, the men stole the jewelry, then fled, the victim told police.
Westwego — A Westwego man was arrested Sunday after authorities say he raped a 6-year-old child and showed the victim pornographic videos.
Kevin Muth was booked with aggravated rape and indecent behavior with a juvenile, according to an arrest report. Authorities said that Muth performed oral sex on the child and then tried to persuade the child to do the same.
The victim refused, and Muth later showed the child pornographic videos.
New Orleans — Police arrested a New Orleans woman Monday after authorities say she pulled a gun on her son’s father because the man picked the boy up from school without permission.
Darlisha Smith, 28, was booked with four counts of aggravated assault and illegal use of a weapon. Police say that Smith became irate Monday after her son’s father dropped the boy off at his school. According to Magistrate Court records, the man did not receive permission to collect the boy Friday and kept him for the entire weekend without discussing it with Smith. The two parents argued at the child’s school, and then Smith followed the father as he left in his vehicle, the report said.
During the drive, police say Smith waved a gun at the man, and later pointed the same gun at him when he arrived at his home. She also fired one shot in the air. Smith told police that the boy’s father and several other people in his vehicle where throwing items at her, and she felt threatened so she fired the weapon.
New Orleans — Police tracked down a 43-year-old Violet man who authorities say dragged his wife from a hotel room tryst at gunpoint last month.
Melvin Hendricks was booked with aggravated burglary, aggravated kidnapping, domestic abuse battery and criminal damage to property. According to Magistrate Court records, Hendricks broke into a hotel room in eastern New Orleans where his wife was with another man March 26. The report states that Hendricks used a power saw to break a window and then climbed into the room carrying a gun and knife.
Police say the victims tried to barricade themselves in the bathroom, but Hendricks forced his way inside before scuffling with the male victim. He would eventually beat his wife of eight years before forcing her into the car with him, according to video footage. Hendricks was arrested without incident by police.
Marrero — A simple refund at a Marrero auto parts store ended in frustration for one Marrero man after authorities say he got counterfeit money for his items.
The 62-year-old victim told police that he returned an alternator to an auto parts store in the 6200 block of the West Bank Expressway last month. As part of the return, the man received two $100 bills from the cashier, according to an incident report.
However, when the victim tried to use one those at a local restaurant, he was denied because the bill was counterfeit. Investigators found that it was a $5 bill that had been converted to a $100 using bleach. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office turned over the money to the Secret Service.
