DENHAM SPRINGS — A Denham Springs woman remained in the Livingston Parish Detention Center on Tuesday on counts of vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated and careless operation following a fatal wreck early Sunday morning.
Witnesses said Kadie Matthews, 24, 24392 Millican Drive, was driving at an extremely high rate of speed east on Interstate 12 near the Juban Road exit when her car crashed into the rear of an eastbound pickup about 4 a.m. Sunday, Denham Springs police Capt. Steve Kistler said Tuesday.
The pickup, driven by 35-year-old Richard Moore Jr., of Walker, left the roadway and struck a tree, Kistler said.
Medical personnel were able to revive Moore at the scene, but he later died from his injuries at a hospital, Kistler said.
Matthews, whose blood alcohol content was measured at 0.15 percent, was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center, Kistler said. A reading on a breath-alcohol analysis device of 0.08 percent is considered presumptive evidence of drunken driving in Louisiana.
She remained in jail in lieu of $101,248 bail, a booking deputy said Tuesday.
The case remains under investigation, Kistler said, noting that many details such as Matthews’ exact rate of speed remain unknown.
The damage to Matthews’ car was extensive, but she was not injured in the wreck, Kistler said.
