Keana Barnes, the prison escapee who was captured in Los Angeles last week after escaping from the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women on Jan. 1, was returned to the St. Gabriel facility Thursday afternoon.
Barnes, 33, waived extradition in a Los Angeles federal court and was escorted back to Louisiana by correctional officers, Pam Laborde, spokeswoman for the Louisiana Department of Corrections, said in a news release.
Barnes had been serving a 25-year sentence for manslaughter in the killings of James Robert Shepherd and Perry Jennings Jr.
On Jan. 1, she escaped when she climbed out a dorm room window after she broke it and then climbed over a perimeter gate, officials have said.
Barnes had been added to the U.S. Marshals Service’s 15 Most Wanted fugitive list in March.
