Dietitians set to lead
talk on supplements

Touro dietitians will lead a seminar on dietary supplements on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the hospital’s President’s Room, 1401 Fourcher St., second floor.

Topics include whether vitamin and mineral supplements make a difference in your health, whether supplements interact with your prescription medications and the latest news about vitamin supplements and heart disease.

Refreshments will be provided; parking is validated.

Women cancer survivors to meet

A support group for women who have completed cancer treatment will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Church Parish House, 1329 Jackson Ave., New Orleans.

The survivor support group is designed for women who have completed cancer treatment and are interested in sharing thoughts, feelings and experiences with other cancer survivors.

A topic specifically related to cancer survivorship is presented and discussed at each support group meeting.

Stroke awareness event set at W. Jeff

West Jefferson Medical Center will hold a stroke awareness event with free carotid artery screenings from 7 to 10 a.m. May 9 at the hospital’s stroke center, 1101 Medical Center Blvd., Marrero.

There will also be a giant “inflatable brain” model available for tours.

Free jazz yoga offered
in French Quarter

Free jazz yoga and meditation sessions are offered at 10 a.m. every Saturday indoors at the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park facility in Dutch Alley, 916 N. Peters St., behind A Tisket A Tasket Bookshop at 910 Decatur St.

All levels are welcome; wear comfortable clothing and bring your own yoga mat.

Instructor Susan Landry and meditational jazz piano player Peter Nu will lead Jazz Yoga and Meditation: Sun Salutations and Gentle Hatha Flow. Arrive 10 minutes early to sign in and meet the instructor.

NOMA, East Jeff
host wellness class

The New Orleans Museum of Art, in collaboration with the Jefferson East Wellness Center, offers wellness classes every Saturday morning and Monday evening.

At 6 p.m. Monday, East Jefferson Wellness Center instructor Terry Rappold leads Tai Chi exercises in various art galleries at NOMA.

Then at 8 a.m. Saturday, the museum offers yoga or pilates among NOMA’s outstanding permanent collection, or if weather permitting, in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden.

Classes are $5; free for NOMA members and East Jefferson Wellness Center members.

Free immunizations in Jefferson, Orleans

The Greater New Orleans Immunization Network bus is offering free shots to children who lack insurance coverage for vaccinations.

Diabetes Support Group meets at East Jefferson General Hospital on the last Thursday of each month from noon to 1 p.m. Members share information and support each other to promote successful diabetes management.
