BELLE CHASSE — A Venice man convicted of child molestation and on the run since 2010 for failing to register as a sex offender was found late last month in Arkansas, the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
U.S. Marshals found Henry J. Billiot Sr., 49, on March 28 at a relative’s home near Little Rock, Ark.
The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office on March 13 asked for the Marshals’ Sex Offender Investigations Branch to help find Billiot, who did not register as a sex offender, said Commander Eric J. Becnel, a sheriff’s spokesman.
Billiot remained jailed Wednesday in the Lonoke County, Ark., Sheriff’s Office on no bond for being a fugitive from Plaquemines Parish.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office must decide whether it will charge him with failure to register as a sex offender.
Billiot waived extradition proceedings and will be charged in Plaquemines Parish’s 25th Judicial District Court if the U.S. Attorney’s Office refuses to indict him, Becnel said.
