A 31-year-old man arrested in 2010 for severely beating an Iberville Parish couple inside their home, then beating and raping a teenage girl, was sentenced to 75 years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to multiple charges related to the incident, prosecutors said.

Stevenson Marshall, of Plaquemine, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted second-degree murder, forcible rape, second-degree kidnapping, two counts of aggravated battery and aggravated escape in Iberville Parish, 18th Judicial District Attorney Rickey Ward said in a news release.

Ward said Marshall was set to stand trial Wednesday after being indicted by the parish’s grand jury July 15, 2010.

Marshall was arrested by Iberville Parish sheriff’s deputies May 3, 2010, after he beat a couple unconscious inside their home south of Plaquemine on April 29.

Later the same night, Marshall approached a teenage girl he knew and persuaded her to get in his car, where he beat and raped her before leaving her tied up on River Road north of Plaquemine, according to previous news reports of the crime.
