BR police investigateBaton Rouge police are investigating a methamphetamine lab that caught fire Tuesday morning at a hotel.

Police and firefighters responded to the blaze after 2:30 a.m. at the Crossland Economy Studios on Boardwalk Drive, police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

No occupants of the hotel room were present and no arrests were made Tuesday, McKneely said.

The small fire caused a limited amount of damage, McKneely said. A crew was called to clean up the hazardous materials, he said.

Gas fumes blamedFumes from gasoline stored inside a Van Buren Street house caused a Tuesday afternoon fire at the home, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived at 271 Van Buren at 2:02 p.m. and found flames extending through the roof of the rear bedroom, Fire Department spokesman Curt Monte said in a news release.

The bedroom and attic above the bedroom were destroyed, and the rest of the home suffered smoke and water damage, Monte said.

The blaze was brought under control at 2:14 p.m., he said.

One resident was home at the time, but no one was injured, Monte said.

Red Cross was called to assist the resident, Monte said.

Four people arrestedon suspicion of DWI

Authorities arrested at least four people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Monday and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, booking records show.
