BSP chapter elects officers for 2013-14
Laureate Alpha Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi elected 2013-14 officers on March 5 at Drusilla Seafood Restaurant: Page Meyer, president; Sandy Linder, vice president; Dixie Gregory, treasurer; Jean Leyda, recording secretary; Marilyn Mayeux, corresponding secretary; and Anne Smith, extension officer. Gregory was elected City Council representative, with Ruth Mannen as alternate.
Members voted for Woman of the Year, whose name will be announced at the Founders Day banquet on April 26 at Ashley Manor.
Mayeux collected money for Pat Shingleton’s “Fill a Prescription” fundraiser. Virginia Huffman announced that food collected for the Mighty Moms organization had been delivered to founder Dawn Birdsong.
Recycling Council gets honor from DEQ
Members of the Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council received an award for their efforts in environmental preservation on March 13 at the Department of Environmental Quality Conference Center in Baton Rouge.
The nonprofit received the 2013 Environmental Leadership Program award in the Non-Governmental Organization Pollution Prevention category from state Sen. Mike Walsworth, chairman of the Environmental Quality Committee; Peggy Hatch, secretary of DEQ; and Gordon Dove, House Natural Resources and Environment Committee chairman, during the ELP Awards ceremony.
This is the fifth year the electronics recycler has received the award, CACRC Executive DirectorNancy Jo Craig said.
CACRC helps reduce electronic scrap by providing recycled computers and equipment to schools, nonprofits and low-income families through the contributions of supporters, which include business, nonprofits, individuals and federal agencies.
