DETROIT — Detroit topped the McNeese State basketball team 73-62 in the title game of the Women’s Basketball Invitational on Saturday despite 22 points from senior Ashlyn Baggett and 16 from senior Caitlyn Baggett.
McNeese (21-15) added 10 points and nine rebounds from Cecilia Ikoye.
McNeese held a 30-28 lead at halftime after leading by as many as eight in the first half. Ashlyn Baggett made Southland Conference history with her fourth 3-pointer, giving her 307 for her career to exceed the mark of 306 held by Lamar’s Jenna Plumley.
The Titans (21-13) made 7 of 12 3-pointers in the second half to build its lead to as many as 14 points.
McNeese had chances to cut into the lead in the final minutes. With the Cowgirls trailing 67-59 and 1:37 left, the Titans missed the front ends of three consecutive one-and-ones, but McNeese failed to score on all three possessions.
