Southern’s baseball team will get a rare weekend off the diamond after Selma’s bus broke down.

The teams were scheduled to play a three-game series, beginning Friday night and concluding with a doubleheader Saturday. But the games were canceled after Selma had transportation difficulties, Southern coach Roger Cador said

“It’s bad we didn’t get to play, but at least all these guys who are injured get a chance to mend,” Cador said.

The Jaguars (11-10), who did not play a midweek game after concluding a three-game weekend set Sunday at Prairie View, will next play at 6 p.m. Wednesday at UNO.

Cador said the team practiced Friday and then he gave the players the weekend off, opting against playing an intrasquad game Saturday. They’ll return to practice Monday.

“You hate to have to miss a whole week in the middle of a season, but that happens,”
Cador said.
