LAFAYETTE — Acadiana has beaucoup festivals in the spring, but the Lafayette Holi festival is likely the most colorful.
The festival of colors begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at Girard Park. The traditional Hindu celebration of spring is sponsored by the Acadiana Indian Association.
As part of Holi, people throw or douse each other with wet- or dry-colored powders. The festival uses organic colors that will be sold at the event.
Festival organizers advise first-timers to visit the festival’s website, http://www.lafayetteholi.org, to view the “Survival Guide” for tips on what to wear and what to bring.
The theme of this year’s festival is Bollywood, and Bollywood-style music and dancing will be part of the event.
Indian food will also be available for purchase.
The “color play” is restricted to a “color zone,” and a separate zone will be available with activities for children.
