Florida Gulf Coast is trending big time right now, so the LSU football team decided to get in on the act by dipping into FGCU’s part of the Sunshine State for its newest commitment.
Sharieff Rhaheed, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound defensive end from Fort Pierce (Fla.) Central announced that he has become the Tigers’ eighth commitment for the Class of 2014.
“I am officially committed to #LSU as of today,” Rhaheed posted on his Twitter account.
Rhaheed visited LSU on Tuesday, posting photos of himself and his mother with LSU coach Les Miles on his Twitter page.
Rhaheed so far hasn’t garnered much attention from the national recruiting services. Rivals and Scout both rank him as a three-star prospect — Scout has him as the nation’s No. 34 defensive end — while neither ESPN nor 24/7 Sports have rated him.
Rhaheed reportedly had offers from numerous schools including Tennessee, Ole Miss, Penn State, North Carolina State, and Louisville.
Rhaheed is LSU’s first commitment from Florida for the 2014 class and its fifth from out of state.
