Three baby capybaras were born at the Audubon Zoo a few weeks ago. Capybaras are the world’s largest rodent, according to Carolyn Atherton, assistant curator of birds at the zoo, and are adapted for an aquatic life, with webbed toes and eyes, ears and nose near the top of their heads so they can easily stay submerged. One of the babies basks in the sunlight with its elders on Tuesday.
Beginning on Memorial Day, May 31, all venues of the Audubon Nature Institute, including the Audubon Zoo, will be open 7 days a week through Labor Day.
Until Memorial Day, the Audubon Zoo, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, Entergy IMAX® Theatre and Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium will be closed on Mondays.
