NEW ORLEANS — Alexes Aiken, a junior at De La Salle High School won three awards in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., at the North American Country Music Association’s International Competition. She represented Tennessee.
The first award was “Future Star: Female Vocalist of the Year (17- to 20-year-olds).” Second was “Songwriter of the Year for New Gospel (17- to 20-year-olds)” with “Note on the Mirror,” a song she wrote about her deceased grandfather.
The third award was “Co-Songwriter of the Year for New Country (17- to 20-year-olds)” for the song “Best in Me.”
The song will be featured in Aiken’s first music video, to be released this week.
Aiken also has her own band that plays country, pop, blues, rock ’n’ roll and Louisiana favorites.
