Man held in killing in Leonidas area
New Orleans — Police have accused a 25-year-old of killing another man in the Leonidas neighborhood last fall.
Darrell George was booked with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder after authorities say he shot two men in the 8300 block of Cohn Street on Sept. 24.
George is accused of killing Terrell Jackson and sending another man to the hospital. Police focused on George as a suspect after a witness identified him as the shooter, according to Magistrate Court documents.
Woman accusedin theft of $450,000
Slidell — A Slidell woman is accused of stealing at least $450,000 while working as a personal assistant for two sisters, and authorities say she may have pilfered more than $2 million.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Janice Ricks Linam, 72, last week after they say she had been stealing money for years. Investigators were called in to investigate financial irregularities by the son of one of Linam’s employers.
They say they found that she had been writing personal checks from the women’s account, and when confronted she confessed to the crimes. Linam was booked with two counts of bank fraud.
Police seek two men in Gentilly robbery
New Orleans — Police are searching for two men who robbed a Gentilly business and its customers on Wednesday night.
The incident was reported in the 3000 block of Gentilly Boulevard around 7:40 p.m.
Police said two armed men entered the clothing store and forced a clerk to the back of the business to open a safe. The men then left the business without incident.
Three sisters accusedof kicking in door
New Orleans — Police arrested three sisters Wednesday after authorities say they kicked in a man’s door with a relative after a fight earlier that day.
Audra Francis, Deidra Francis and Roschelle Francis were all booked with being principles to aggravated burglary by New Orleans police Wednesday. According to court records, the three women joined David Francis when he kicked in the door of an eastern New Orleans apartment and waved a gun.
Police said the incident was reported around 6:20 p.m. The 23-year-old victim reported that he got into a fight with David Francis earlier in the day.
A short time later, David Francis returned to the victim’s apartment while armed, along with the three women. It was not clear how David Francis was related to the women, and no injuries were reported in the incident, according to court records.
Police say teen made threats after fight
Harvey — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office made another arrest in connection with a large fight at Helen Cox High School on Tuesday, but this time a 19-year-old was accused of sending threatening messages on Instagram.
Charles Oatis was booked with terrorizing on Wednesday after authorities say he posted a picture with guns and bombs on Instagram and promised he’d be at the school because his cousin was involved in Tuesday’s fight. The picture drew the attention of several parents and school administrators who contacted authorities.
Harvey man accused in multiple rapes
Gretna — A Harvey man wanted for more than a decade in connection with multiple child rapes was arrested Wednesday after being extradited from Texas.
Hugh Viera, 52, was booked with two counts of aggravated rape, sexual battery, oral sexual battery and several charges involving sex crimes with minors.
According to an incident report, a Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputy was stopped by a fifth grader at a Marrero school in 2000 who told him that Viera had raped her.
When investigators followed up on the crime to arrest him, another young girl came forward and said he’d molested her as well. It was not clear how Viera ended up in Texas.
Police arrest suspect in copper thefts
Metairie — A 20-year-old Metairie man is accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of copper downspouts from homes and businesses in Old Metairie.
Sean Boudreaux was arrested Tuesday by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Investigators caught Boudreaux after they say he stole a downspout that was faux copper.
