Letter: Thanks for St. Patrick’s Parade go to many

The 28th annual St. Patrick’s Parade, “The Wearing of the Green,” rolled last Saturday to record crowds and near-perfect weather. I could literally fill a page of newsprint thanking public and private sponsors, vendors and hundreds more people who helped the Hammett and Shingleton families bring this annual event to Baton Rouge.

As the parade director, one thing stood out this year more than any other year, the Baton Rouge City Police.

The parade detail, as they say in police talk, was under the direction of Lt. James Vernon. He and his officers did an outstanding job assisting us in the execution of the parade and in crowed control. I can’t speak for other parades, but for this event, they were awesome. Congratulations on a job well done.

Joining them on that morning were other law enforcement agencies such as the EBR Sheriff’s deputies and our friends at Louisiana State Police.

One of the ways you measure the success of an event is the weight of the trash generated. The good folks at Department Of Public Works report that they collected over 20,000 pounds of debris, making this the biggest and best in Red Stick. Again, thank you Baton City Police and thanks to all of our parade fans.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to thank Saint Patrick.
