Years ago, our friend the late Price Leblanc and I would wager as to when the last freeze of the season would occur. I would select a date in mid- to late March and Price would occasionally pick days after the first of April.
Price monitored the weather closely for his cattle and his swimming regimen and would call our Weather Center for verifications. Needless to say, he always won the bet.
This season, we recorded seven freeze episodes with another event possible this morning. On Dec. 13, Dec. 14, Dec. 22 and Dec. 30, we recorded readings at or below the 32-degree mark.
The temperature didn’t bottom to 32 degrees in January, once in February and twice in March. Since recordkeeping in 1965, 24 freezes have been registered for March. Fastcast: Chilly.
