The Tulane women’s basketball team’s early exit from the Conference USA tournament didn’t keep it from finding a postseason home.
The Green Wave will host Sam Houston State in the first round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday in Devlin Fieldhouse. It’s the fourth straight season Tulane has reached the postseason and third WNIT trip in as many years.
“We’re excited for the opportunity to keep playing and being able to finish the season on a high note,” coach Lisa Stockton said. “Playing at home, especially in a tournament this large, gives you an advantage in trying to advance. I think it’s always great to play home. To have our fans be a part of the postseason makes it a little more special.”
Tulane (22-8) was bounced from the quarterfinals of the C-USA tournament by host Tulsa on Thursday. Sam Houston State (18-14) earned an automatic WNIT bid by scoring a share of the Southland Conference regular-season title.
Thursday’s winner advances to the round of 16 and a matchup with Arkansas or Memphis. The Green Wave beat Memphis 72-62 on Jan. 20 at Devlin Fieldhouse.
Tickets to Thursday’s game are available through the Tulane athletics ticket office: It’s $4 for students, and $6, $12 and $16 for other seats.
Also, the McNeese State (18-14) women scored a bid in the Women’s Basketball Invitational. They visit Mercer (20-11) at 7 p.m. Thursday.
