State archivist speaks to Audubon DAR
State Archivist Florent Hardy Jr. spoke about the people of Louisiana to the John James Audubon Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution on Feb. 18 at Drusilla Seafood Restaurant.
Hardy coordinated the production of the book “Louisiana Celebrates 200 Years of History: Louisiana Statehood Bicentennial 1812-2012.” Segments of Louisiana history are arranged chronologically and divided into two parts — history, and cultural and natural resources.
Chapter Regent Margaret Tyler welcomed past regents, members and guests. Registrar Betty Jo Snellgrove introduced new and prospective members. Attendees sampled Martha Washington’s mother’s gingerbread recipe. The recipe is from the booklet “Mount Vernon Hospitality.”
DAR membership is open to women age 18 or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descentfrom an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. For information, email email@example.com
Presidents’ Day topic for Beta Sigma Phi
Virginia Huffman led a program on the origin of Presidents’ Day for Laureate Alpha Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi on Feb. 19 at President Phyllis Turner’s home.
Turner and Vice President Verlyn LeBlanc conducted a Welcome Ritual for new member Maxine Muller.
Service Committee Chairwoman Marilyn Mayeux reported that a box of Valentine candy, balloons and a gift card were delivered to Laura Getz to help with the cost of a trip to Houston for medical treatment.
City Council Representative Ruth Mannen said the Picnic in the Park fundraiser will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 13, at BREC’s Independence Park to benefit the Beta Sigma Phi Disaster Fund.
