The LSU Cycling Club will host its third annual two-day, three-race cycling event this weekend in St. Francisville and Baton Rouge as part of the South Central Collegiate Cycling Conference.
The first race, a road race, will be from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday and the second race, a time trial, will begin at 5:30 p.m., according to club member Samantha Stein.
Both races are in St. Francisville will begin at the home of Mike Rourke at 13918 La. 421, Stein said.
The third race, a short-course speed race, will start Sunday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the front steps of the State Capitol building, Club President Dustin Drewes said in a news release. The race ends back at the start line.
About 20 teams will race against each other in seven categories depending on skill and experience level, Drewes said.
In the release, Drewes said spectators can expect a different, more thrilling experience than what they normally get attending the 5K run.
“Crashes and injury are no stranger to this type of racing and the speeds will often reach upwards of 30 mph and these are people on pedal powered machines,” Drewes said.
