Audubon Pilgrimage highlights weekend

The 42nd annual Audubon Pilgrimage, Friday through Sunday, features tours of one historic townhouse, Evergreenzine, in St. Francisville and three country plantation homes, Wakefield, Beechwood and Catalpa. Tour houses are open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Additional attractions are the Rosedown and Audubon state historic site homes, Afton Villa Gardens, three 19th-century churches and the rural homestead’s activities.

Tickets are available at the ticket office behind the West Feliciana Historical Society’s museum on Ferdinand Street in the heart of St. Francisville’s historic district. Information on the three-day event may be found at the pilgrimage website, http://www.audubonpilgrimage.info.

Two night events also are planned, a wine and cheese reception and other activities from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in the Royal Street area of town and a 7 p.m. Saturday soiree on Prosperity Street by the courthouse. Ticket information is available on the website, or tickets may be purchased at the museum ticket office.

Lane events

Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary is offering a free financial planning seminar at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the hospital’s staff development classroom. Alan Gregory, Lonny Myles and Bill Gaines will speak on wills, successions and potential tax advantages.

Lane’s Auxiliary has a “Books Are Fun” book fair from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the West Wing conference room and a Masquerade $5 jewelry and accessories sale from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday in the staff development classroom.

Book signing

Author and outdoor educator Amy Griffin Ouchley will sign copies of her new children’s book, “Swamper: Letters from a Louisiana Swamp Rabbit,” from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Grandmother’s Buttons on Royal Street in St. Francisville. Her fictitious rabbit shares his vivid observations about life in a Louisiana swamp in 12 “letters” addressed to his human friends.

Blood drive

West Feliciana Parish Fire Protection District 1 is recruiting donors for a blood drive scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. March 21 in the training room of the district’s headquarters on West Feliciana Parkway Drive.

Louisiana lockup

Louisiana State Penitentiary Assistant Warden Cathy Fontenot will be the guest speaker for a coffee at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Francisville’s First Baptist Church, sponsored by the Feliciana Chapter of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Fontenot coordinates public relations for the prison and has worked with movies, documentaries and other events at Angola.

Members and guests are invited.

Plant donations wanted

The Jackson Tourist Enhancement Committee needs donated plants for an April 6 plant swap and sale. Donations may be dropped off at Milbank, the East Feliciana Chamber of Commerce office in Jackson or Betsy Jones’ law office in Clinton. Call (225) 721-1514 or (225) 719-0356 to arrange a pickup.
