Advocate staff report

The second annual Visitation of Our Lady School Kindergarten Literacy Night was held March 7 in the Visitation gym. The theme was, “Reading is our THING!”, in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, March 2.

The event was open to all kindergarten students and their families. There were 75 kindergarteners who participated in this educational experience and about 200 people in attendance.

The kindergarten classes have been reading and performing activities in class related to the 12 stations presented at the event.

Some stations included the tasting of green eggs and ham, making and playing with oobleck (green slime), Cat in the Hat face painting and hat making, recycle relay, and a cake walk based on the kindergarten high frequency reading words.

The students also received a treat bag with bookmarks, oobleck and play-dough recipe cards, pencils, and a folder with language development tips for parents.

Co-op provided cookies and punch for the event.

Once each station was completed, the children received a sticker on a necklace. If a student completed 10 stations, he or she had an opportunity to win a door prize. One student from each kindergarten class won a $15 gift card to Barnes and Noble. Winners included Rowan Pham, Dylan Benoit, Ammy Nguyen and Mardi Hester.
