Appropriately, three players with Louisiana ties headline the first group of commitments released Thursday for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, which will be played April 25-28 at TPC Louisiana.

The list is topped by former LSU All-American David Toms, who claimed the title at the annual New Orleans PGA Tour stop in 2001 when it was known as the Compaq Classic, and also includes former Baton Rouge resident Patrick Reed and former Tulane golfer Michael Thompson.

Toms, who’s won 13 PGA Tour events overall, will play in the New Orleans event for the 20th time since his first start there in 1990. He has played in 16 of the last 17 tournaments since 1996, missing only in 2008.

Reed played at University High and was an All-American at Augusta State, leading that school to back-to-back NCAA titles in 2010 and 2011.

Reed made his name on Tour last year as a Monday qualifier in six events — including the Zurich Classic, where he made the cut and tied for 24th — and earned his Tour card in the fall at Q-School. His best finish this year is a tie for seventh at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Thompson won his first PGA Tour event Sunday at the Honda Classic and ranks 11th on the money list so far this season. He played at Tulane for two seasons before the program was disbanded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and he finished his college career at Alabama.

Toms is one of five former New Orleans champions who have committed to playing this year, Fore!Kids CEO Steve Worthy said in a news release.

Other former champions scheduled to play in the $6.6 million tournament are K.J. Choi (2002), Tim Petrovic (2005), Jerry Kelly (2009) and Jason Bohn (2010).

Single-day tickets are available for $25 and a weekly badge is priced at $75. For more information, visit the tournament website at http://www.zurichgolfclassic.com.
