Photo department for a full-time Photo Editor

The Advocate has an opening in the Photo department for a full-time Photo Editor.

General Summary of Position: The Photo Editor is responsible for daily and advance photo coverage by attending daily budget and advance planning meeting, assisting the Photo Department Manager in setting the direction and goals for the department, and working with other editors and photo staff to advance efforts with The Advocate's online department. The Successful candidate will edit work of the photo staff, the AP wire and any other sources to ensure photos truthful and in compliance with The Advocate's high standard of ethics. The Photo Editor will be responsible for generating ideas for photographic coverage, assigning topics, events, and stories to photo staff, and will act as a mentor or Photo coach for interns and young staff photographers.

Education and Knowledge Requirements: Bachelor's degree in photojournalism or 5 or more years in the photojournalism field is required. Candidate must have working knowledge of photographic equipment, computer equipment, and transmitting devices. Successful candidate should have experience in online coverage. Video editing a plus.
