The United Way and KATC-TV are sponsoring a region-wide book drive on Thursday to provide elementary level books to area children.
New and used books will be accepted at United Way offices in Lafayette, Opelousas, New Iberia and Jennings as well as at Ville Platte City Hall and school board offices in Acadia, St. Martin and Vermilion parishes.

A workshop on making sleeping mats for the homeless from recycled plastic shopping bags is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Grace Presbyterian Church, 518 Roselawn Blvd., Lafayette.

A members-only sale is scheduled for Wednesday, and the sale is open to the general public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Earthshare Gardens, a community gardening nonprofit group, will host a Sunday brunch fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 7 at Pamplona Tapas Bar in downtown Lafayette.
There will also be a plant sale and silent auction.
