LAKE CHARLES — The Chenier Plain Coastal Restoration and Protection Authority met last week to begin discussion on projects planned in southwest Louisiana.
The group includes members from Calcasieu, Cameron and Vermilion parishes.
Kay Barnett, who represents Calcasieu, said the authority heard from state Sen. Dan Morrish, R-Jennings, and officials of the state Legislative Auditor’s Office, the Attorney General’s Office and the state Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority.
Barnett said the group will function like a levee board with authority to levy a tax if voters approve. The authority plans monthly meetings. Its next one will be March 19 in Calcasieu Parish.
